Missy Davis Bennion's Wart Removal

When Missy was in high school we noticed her limping around the house. She finally admitted to having an enormous wart on the bottom of her foot. She had tried self surgery several times but it kept coming back. Mom made an appointment with the family "wart" doctor and I was assigned to take her on the adventure.

After the customary humility tour of his waiting room the good doctor saw us in an examination room. He took one look at the infected wart and looked at me like I was a sadistic serial child abuser. His frown said it all. "What kind of a family let's their most precious daughter suffer such pain and indignity." He leaves the room (I was really expecting him to return with a case worker from DCFS or at least a SLC police squad in SWAT gear) but it was only a needle full of wart killing poison.

There we were Missy stretched out on the table, the doctor poised to start the multiple injections and me holding the cowering Missy in my arms. Her usual self-assurance was gone and she was poised for pain. When he started the injections her whole body tensed up. But in classic Davis fashion Missy and I began laughing. First it was nervous little tee hees but by the time the good doctor was finished we were into serious (and loud) belly laughs. I wonder if the doctor noticed there were tears streaming down both of our faces?

Glama Toosie's Green Thumbs

When Glama Toosie was here 2 major things happened. She received her new name "Glama Toosie" and Glama instilled a hankering within me to want to garden.

Here's the scoop, we hit up Costco for some choice roast for dinner when Mom saw the flowers. A flat for $10. She kept looking back as we walked further and further past them. It was killing her, all of the people with the flowers, virtually everyone with flats in their carts. Yeah I saw them too but I didn't seem to notice them so much, yup they were pretty but so are all flowers. What would I do with a flat of flowers anyway. Glama made up her mind, I had to have the flowers and she was going to plant them. So be it. Truth is, I love them. I go out the front door to see my LOVELY flowers Glama planted for me all of the time. Thanks MOM!

When I was a kid I remember thinking gardening was for old people and I was never going to do it. Now I want to plant a beautiful little garden on my front porch/yard. I packed up the family today and headed down to Home Depot so I could look around in the gardening section. We got there and I realized it is overwhelming. So I propose this to Glama Toosie, perhaps you can update the phrogbottom phorum with the developments of your hill this spring and provide all of your lovely gardening fans with some tips and tricks. What flowers are the easiest to maintain? When would I water them? What kind of flowers dont need much sun? We all know Glama knows the answers and more. Time to spill it. If you do it I will keep you posted on the development of my budding garden as well. You in?

The other major event was simple, Davis Calls Glama, Glama Toosie. Its perfect and I vote for it sticking.

Joseph F. Smith Family Reunion-East Coast Chapter

In November, the East Coast Chapter of the Joseph F. Smith Family convened for Grandpapa's 171st Birthday Celebration. The party consisted of three families with the accumulation of 6 adults, 2 teenagers, and 9 kiddos (3 young adults were absent for academic pursuits). While our numbers may be considerably smaller than the West Coast Chapter, our festivities were paralleled in spirituality, family one-ness, and decorum (if not stuffiness). While we did not enjoy the sage musings of Russell M. Ballard, we were enlightened by several re-enactments of Grandpapa's life. One of the productions included Abz and Tadpole as pioneers and Superkid as wild ruffian who scared said pioneers and all other Mormon's except young Joseph who stood up and proudly said he was a Mormon Boy (true blue through and through). In another dramatization, I played an ailing Joseph while cousins Linda and Rebecca hula danced into the scene to help me convalesce from my infirmities in remembrance of the sweet sister who cared for Joseph when he was sick on his mission in Hawaii. And then there was the one where Superkid (Young Joseph) straddled his cousin's back (the horse) while two wild and crazy Indians rode up beside him, plucked him off of his horse, tossed him aside, and galloped away with his horse (which may have been my favorite scene because our unsuspecting Superkid looked just as surprised as I'm sure Joseph did). Good Times. ...Okay, maybe you had to be there. But there is one thing we can all agree on, the West Coast Chapter will be knocking on my door for a reproduction of this cake for their festivities next year!

Soundtrack to my youth

When someone asks me about my childhood the first thing that comes to my mind is not of butterknives whizzing past my head thrown by a loving sibling, I dont think of marching in every parade in the world, I dont think family dinners where we laughed so hard we couldnt even pray, all good memories but the memories that stick out in my head and the fondest are the long Sunday drives listening to classical music. Going to Park City was always my favorite ride with Mom and Dad but we would go everywhere, ghost towns, downtown Salt Lake or a ride up the canyon but we sure did spend a lot of time looking at other peoples homes as well.

Dad always had control of the music and there were never any questions but Im sure there were complaints but I never complained when Dad would pop in Wynton Marsalis. I loved it. One album/song in particular #4 of the list canon for 3 trumpets listen here: http://music.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=music.artistalbums&artistid=10100861&ap=0&albumid=8080611

Tonight I signed up for itunes in hopes to find this number which I have been on the search for years. I actually found it on myspace music. I listen to this and Im instantly back in the silver van sitting between Mom and Dad going for a nice long drive aimlessly.

Thanks Mom and Dad for the fond memories!
