Although half of us hate to admit it (Steve), Indy has two new race fans. Prior to coming to Indiana, both Steve and I agreed that racing really wasn't our thing...although one of us was more passionately against the "sport" than the other. This month we successfully dodged the frenzy that is the Indy 500 for the most part. That is, until race day.
Admittedly we read up about the event, interested in the history behind the fanfare. But knowledge can be dangerous. Knowing the hum of roaring engines raged just a few miles away, as hundreds of thousands of cheering fans waited for a fiery crash... we just couldn't help tuning into the action. Initially we listened to the race on the radio while out for a Sunday drive, since Indy residents can only watch the race on a time delay (an attempt to get us to the race track). Steve got so wrapped up in the action, he even had a small car crash himself (another story for another day). We feel lucky though, the Corolla held up much better than Marco Andretti's wheels.
Once home we planned to only watch the start and finish. But once our man Manning waved the Green flag, we were glued! We were in awe of the cat and mouse chase between Sam and Helio; cheered when Milka spun out early; devastated when a flat tire caused Helio to lose the lead but thrilled when Tony blazed ahead; and Steve's never been so excited as when young Marco flipped his car going 220+ mph! In the end, Team Andretti Green did not disappoint...and two new Indy Car fans were born.

I'm dying to know... how did Danica Patrick and Scott Sharp do????
We were flipping through the channels and came upon the race. Superkid was all for it, but
Pops said, "I don't know how people can watch this." I told him to keep up with the blog. Besides, who would have EVER guessed I would become a Red Sox fan????
Thanks for the race update.
